Whining for Wine
What is Wining?
In it's simplest form it's a technique that's used to clear out a Call to Duty Dungeon (or FB Cave) of mobs. What this does, is leave just the Boss(es) behind for you to kill.
How does it work?
It's quite simple...all you need to do is make some wine, take it to the Old Swordsman (who appears in all the FB caves) and that's it.
Step 1: Getting Wine
In Archosaur, West District is an NPC called Mister Tso, located at 528 656 (22). Clicking on him will present you with a list of wines that you can manufacture. Each FB Cave requires a specific wine and some Caves require 1 while others require 2 bottles of the same wine. Below is a table of which FB Caves require which Wines:
Call to Duty | Bottles Needed | Wine Name | Image |
FB19 | 1 | Osmanthus Wine | |
FB29 | 1 | Bamboo Wine | |
FB39 | 2 | Daughter's Wine | |
FB49/51 | 2 | Fragrances Wine
FB59 | 2 | Chiennan Spring Wine
FB69 | 2 | Ancient Well Wine
FB79 | 2 | Afterglow Wine | |
FB89 | 2 | Tukang Wine | |
FB99 | 2 | Wine of Everlasting Sorrow |
The below table outlines which materials are needed for each Wine:
Wine Name | Amount | Mat 1 | Mat 2 | Mat 3 | Mat 4 |
Osmanthus | 10 x | Log | Pig Iron | Sandstone | Coal Dust |
Bamboo | 2 x | Rough Lumber | High Carbon Steel | Gravel | Coal |
Daughter's | 8 x | Rough Lumber | High Carbon Steel | Gravel | Coal |
Fragrances | 8 x | Fine Lumber | Refined Steel | Rubstone Powder | Anthracite |
Chiennan Spring | 10 x | Fine Lumber | Refined Steel | Rubstone Powder | Anthracite |
Ancient Well | 10 x | High-Grade Lumber | Steel Alloy | Corundom Powder | Charcoal |
Afterglow | 15 x | High-Grade Lumber | Steel Alloy | Corundom Powder | Charcoal |
Tukang | 15 x | Lumber Essence | High Alloy Steel | Granite | Extruded Charcoal |
Everlasting Sorrow | 20 x | Lumber Essence | High Alloy Steel | Granite | Extruded Charcoal |
Step 2: Using the Wine
You must now take your wine to the Old Swordsman who appears in every FB Cave. If you speak to the Old Swordsman there will be an option to give him the wine. Doing so will make him clear out the Cave of all (or most) of the mobs, leaving just the boss(es).
What's the purpose?
Reason 1: No Need for Mobs
With many of the Call to Duty quests you will need a few mobs in the cave before you can complete the quest. However, if you have already completed a FB Run (maybe you helped a friend earlier and now it's your turn) then this is perfect if you already have the mob kills.
Reason 2: You're lazy
If you feel like doing a Call to Duty or FB run but don't feel like taking out all the mobs just to get to the bosses.
Reason 3: Time Limit
For whatever reason, you need to do a FB run fast, this is a great way to get it done.
Reason 4: Random
For whatever reason you need to do a FB run fast, or just need to get into the cave for a specific item/mob/boss but don't want to fight your way through all the mobs, then this tool works great.
